About Cannington
Cannington is a community nestled in Brock Township, Ontario. This town is located along the Beaver River.
Settled for over thirty years – this town gained its rightful name through those who settled here in 1833 – a family with the last name of McCaskill. At the time, it was called McCaskill’s Mills, but it eventually changed to Cannington during an incorporation process that took place in 1878.
When Durham Region was created in 1974, the original Township of Brock merged with its neighbouring municipalities to form a larger municipal body.
